Is there any chance of Thompson Park building bleachers a scoreboard and locker rooms for the football field in the future. I am the new owner of a minor league football team looking to play in the area and our field is required to have those items. Its a beautiful field thats why I was wondering

Hi Amy,
Last year I saw that Thompson Park had couple of Car Shows, I don’t see any on the schedule for this year, are there any planned?
Also, I know that the Park Commission holds month meetings, but I don’t see a schedule. Are these meeting open to the public? Could we get a schedule and location posted on the web-site? That might encourage people to attend the meetings and be more involved in the park activities.
Thanks, Bill

Hi Bill,
There is going to be a car show during the “Praise in the Park” event this year on July 11th, 2009. Planning for “Praise in the Park is moving forward. Our next meeting will be held on Monday, April 20th at 6:00 pm in Pavilion #1 at Thompson Park. The car show is scheduled to begin that say at 10:00 am, with registration starting at 9:00 am. This information is not yet on the Web site, so check it often. There will probably be information about it once we have our meeting tomorrow.
I haven’t attended any park commission meetings lately, but I think they usually list them in the Review. I know that these meeting are open to the public and adding a schedule for them on the Web site would be a great idea. I will talk to the park superintendent about that. Maybe he can give me some more in formation. I do know, that those meeting don’t usually cover events. They cover more of the financial side.
We used to have an event coordinator, but she is gone now. I thought about taking that over, but there were just too many events in the past for just one person to handle. I am trying to be coordinator of coordinators, if you know what I mean. For example, Bill Vasser is the Coordinator for the “Praise in the Park” event, Matt Watson is the coordinator for the “Christmas Circle of Lights” event, Kelsey Hedricks is the coordinator of all Disc Golf events. Although, Bill Vasser is adding a car show to the “Praise in the Park” event, Someone else can coordinate one another time. Or someone could just be the coordinator of Thompson Park Car Shows. Once we have enough events and volunteer coordinators for each of them, we will probably start holding Thompson Park Event Coordinator meetings.
I’m giving you all this information in hopes that others will see it and come forward and volunteer event coordinators. I have many ideas for events and we are also open to any ideas others might have. We just volunteers to coordinate different events. The more events we have, the more people we will see in the park. We need things, especially for the kids to do. As you probably know, there is not much around here for them.
So, I hope this answered your questions and please pass it on that wee are looking for everyone’s event ideas and volunteer coordinators for those events. If you’re interested in doing anything in the park, please feel free to let me know. Whoever coordinates an event gets free advertisement for it on the Thompson Park Web site. I get weekly reports on the site, and I can tell you, that we get over 500 hits on that site every week.
Thanks for writing and please check the Thompson Park Web site frequently for updates.

The car show is July 11th. April 20th is the “Praise in the Park” meeting. After reading my post, I noticed that looked a little confusing.

Young teen events such as fun days at the park. It would be nice to incorporate a fun event with a way to get these kids more active in the area.

I agree, Vickey! The problem is that we need volunteers to coordinate events. I’d like to see Karaoke contests, more musical concerts, educational events, and so on. It’s just too hard for one person to coordinate all the possible events. If you have any ideas that you would like to take charge of, let me know and I will help you get it started. You can put together your own committee for that event. And remember, anything that happens in the park gets free advertisement on the Thompson Park Website.
